Over the last months, we have been discussing a lot about what we would do next (since we finalized our Bathory cover track - release date TBA), and what would be our artistic approach of the following Askrinn album.

The mediaeval Scandinavian litterature is incredibly rich, so we had a lot of possible themes and topics to be discussed. But among that ocean of possibilities, we had to choose a direction and keep sailing in a way that would be meaningful for the Askrinn entity.

It went faster than I had initially expected. I just did my last sale, and the packet is sitting on my desk ready to be shipped to the Australian fan who ordered it.

A month or so before releasing my latest album Hjørleifsljóð, back in 2014, I had been interviewed by the webzine SEER Promotions, which was sharing very inspiring artistic creations and was also asking some pretty interesting questions.

Back when I recorded my debut album, I was using an acoustic guitar I had borrowed from a friend (thank you Ochy!). Where I was, the instruments I had seen in the shops were not really exciting, and the perspective to bring it back to my country during my return trip was not thrilling either.

That borrowed guitar quickly became a major composition tool for me, as it allowed me to focus more on the melodies I was writing instead of being distracted by the distortion sound. It was also essential in several of the songs, as I really enjoy acoustic intros or breaks.

Bathory has since the beginning been one of the various influences of Askrinn's music. Quorthon's music definitely has an earthly and sincere vibe that I can only but respect and relate to.

Therefore, when Marc Hoyland (Heathen Deity, Ethereal Forest) contacted me back in December to propose me to participate to a Bathory tribute compilation, I immediately accepted.

As a first post for 2015, and while I have been working hard on an adaptation/cover of a track composed by a famous metal one-man band (you have already heard about it if you have subscribed to my newsletter, actually), I decided it was time to bring the Askrinn fans (you!) more to the fore.

Today, the 14th of November 2014, is a major day in the already two years old history of Askrinn.

Today, I am proud to announce the release of the first Askrinn full-length album, entitled Hjørleifsljóð, a pagan black metal opus filled with Old Norse lyrics and mediaeval content. It is now available as both a limited CD edition and as a free download (keep reading to know why).

I am highly excited to hear all of your feedbacks on those sounds, and I hope they will match the very positive reviews the album has received so far.

The year 2014 has been an incredibly busy one for Askrinn, focused on the preparation of the new album, Hjørleifsljóð. Finally, after an intensive recording and mixing period, time has come for me to share with you the release date chosen for this disc.

The pressing factory was very efficient and professional, and I ended up receiving the CDs of the new album barely one week after I had submitted them the artwork and audio tracks. And it is definitely looking great!

Big news for today. I've been rather silent during the past month, except maybe on Twitter. Even worse, I did not send the August newsletter.

I was completely focused on mixing and mastering (if you're not familiar with those terms, read : optimizing the sound of the recording) the new album, Hjørleifsljóð. I did not want to waste your time with half-interesting news about something not yet finished.

Mixing has started for Hjorleifsljod.

As I finished recording all the instruments and screams in June, I am now working on mixing the new album. Basically it means adjusting the level and position of each recorded sound in order to optimize the perception of each sound.
